I have about 14,000 miles on my solid roller motor and I've noticed that every few tanks of gas that it needs another quart of oil. So I hooked up the leak down tester. I suspected that my 1/16th racing piston rings were probably warn out.
But all my cylinders are 2.5 to 3 % which is like a freshly rebuilt motor. So the problem of oil usage is bad guides again in the AFR 210 heads. My high lift solid rollers kinda go through guides. .664/.688 lift right now.
do you see blue smoke especially when you back off the gas pedal and have high vacuum?
what viscosity oil are you using?
no leaks?
any kind of PCV system?
I have never followed my Vette to see. I do get blue smoke on start up if it has sat for days. The AFR heads are modded for better oil return, but I don't think that I did enough. Even with Teflon PC seals it seems to get in.
As to oil weight I use a combination of VR1 10W-30 and 20w-50 to get the correct oil pressure while hot.
Given you get smoke on start up I think I would be pulling some springs and checking for valve guide wear.
On my dart headed 350 I did have some issues with the spring snagging the guide seal and unseating them, that could be an issue as well perhaps.
