A couple of Forum members suggested that the clock could be repaired with a splash of WD-40. Since it is out, how do I get the back off it to? Do I just unclip the tabs that come off the face and pull off the hands?
I just repaired my clock.Theres a breaker switch inside the clock that with time, gets corroded.I just pickiked it apart and cleaned it..Runs like new
You have to remove the hands to be able to get to the gears and such,no biggie :yesnod:
I keep hearing and reading about clocks.. my 82 doesn't have one.. what year did they discontinue?
In 81 if you ordered an ETR (digital radio) the clock in the guage cluster was replaced with an oil temp guage. In 82 all radios were ETR so the clocks were in the radio.
I don't know if I would use WD-40. Wouldn't the residue attract and hold dust and dirt? I used tv tuner cleaner on all the moving parts and filed the points. Clock has been running fine for 4 years.

Yeah, but that clock ain't no Rolex; it's a POS, and needs tough love! :jester
Just kidding... Of couse, spraying lots of WD-40 is not exactly the "right" thing to do, but it worked for me and many others. BTW, you don't need to take anything apart. You can spray through some openings/holes (e.g. the one of the whatchamacallit used to adjust the clock). Just be careful not to spray (too much) WD-40 on the clocks face, or it may fade the lettering.
If you have the patience to actually take it apart, then you may as well do it right; maybe consider a quartz conversion kit...
I ordered the clock repair kit. Works like a charm. I didn't even upgrade to quartz. Not too tough to do. Actually, the hardest part, was getting the clock out of the center console.
