Default Sidepipe Install Question, Need help.

Hey all, Long time no type! I've been out of the country on business and just generally busy at work after that, so I have had NO time to hang out on here. I miss you all :)

I'm trying to bolt up the pipes to the side of the car, but I'm having a little trouble.

First off, my headers were modified to fit the raised port BBC Canfied heads that I'm using. As a result they stick out to the side a couple of degrees, so there is some resistance moving the pipe up to the side of the car. The guy who did the mod said to get everything bolted up and run it around for a while. The heat from running will make these pipes settle in the right place.

My problem, is that near where the rear T bolt comes out, there's a little lip that makes it so I can BARELY get the rear bushing connected. With the bolt in place I can't get the hanger for the pipe above the bushing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this installed? Here are a couple of pictures.

Thanks

Steve. Long time no hear......... Nice looking baffle. When I do a set of my sidepipes, I don't use the regular sidepipe bracket like yours. I fab up a "Z" bracket so it uses the under the frame t-slot. Alot easier. If you need more info, e-mail me. JCL :yesnod: :yesnod: "Have Baffles. Will Travel"

Jim, you've been holding out on me :mad Even if I didn't hear about this earlies, it is still a great suggestion and would make removing pipes much, much easier. Please post or email me too if you please.

Thanks,

Chuck

427V8: Nope, don't think so. The T stud is going right into the side of the frame.

JCL: you have mail.

Before I had my side tubes coated I bent the tabs so that they would use mounts under the frame and there would be no reason to have to cut the rocker panels. So far no problems and work fine. I can get a pic if anyone needs it.

Please post a pic.

Do they sit at the same level as they would if the tabs hadn't been bent?

Do you still use the T studs to connect them?

Steve,

They sit at the same level, I used the rear T-hole but for the forward one I drilled a small hole and used a long lag bolt. Let me go out and see if I can get a decent pic....be right back

OK, here ya go. Not a great pic, and the bends don't look great from this angle but from up top you can't tell a thing, pipes are level and sit how they should.

Steve, I was beginning to wonder what happened to you!! I am really curious to see how the hedders were modified to fit your heads, so post a pic if you can! Glad to see you are still hanging around!

I'll post pictures in a bit. I just finally got my cable modem back up.

The headers had to be cut, bent, massaged, loved and welded back together to fit on the car.

They look like a factory job though, they did top notch work.

Stay tuned.

Ok, I got the pipe half mounted, with the rear tab. I didn't want to bend the tabs, so I just tried this to see what would happen. I used my cut-off tool to open up that lip that was covering the rear hole. This is so odd, when I have the rear bolt in, the front tab doesn't line up with the hole. Maybe my frame is tweaked.

Should I drill another hole? Will it hurt anything if I just use the rear tab or is it not strong enough?

Here are some pictures.

Here is the pipe, mounted to the car with the rear tab only.

This is the position of the front tab with the rear one mounted.

Here is the rear tab mounted to the frame. ( I know, a bushing is missing, I'm not done yet).

Steve, I just ground a little off the edge off the piece you showed to to allow the baracket to fit. For what it is worth, my Hooker side pipes don't have a front mounting tab, only the back one and all is fine.

HEY- THAT IS MY HOOD! haa haa

Hi Steve, sidepipes look great. That car is too nasty to be on the street... your gonna have fun! The hood is perfect for my car, did alittle tweaking and adding some fiberglass when the body goes back on.

Anthony: Did I put a shot of the hood in there? Glad it fit!

blacksharkL82: yeah, if they were on the other way I'd never be able to put the trim on.
