You ~could~ convert to a newer GM ECM which allows easier tuning and keeps the Crossfire intake. A DynamicEFI upgraded ECM would allow you to flash tune the EFI system. You more or less just re-terminate the ECM wiring for new connectors to fit the new ECM.
Take a look at the FAST support forums before you buy from them. Ask me how I know. They are nothing but problems. Look at the reviews on Amazon and Summit as well. Full of complaints and issues. For my part, it dumped so much fuel and ran so rich that gas ran down in to my oil pan. I'm not the only person with that problem, either.
My suggestion is stay far away. Get Holley. I've heard nothing but good things about their units.
had not heard of problems.Thats to bad had thought they were good.I seen the holly on tv that looks good .At least now we have more options.
Engine Cost; Keep in mind that these are 2011 prices. Everything for the engine including gaskets, new fans belts, new push rods, intake manifold, Dewitts radiator, engine/exhaust paint, new spark plug wiring, distributor cap / rotor, spark plugs, Magnaflow high flow cat, roller rockers, lifters, cam, new 85 fuel pump, etc. came to about $3,500.
One thing that has not been mentioned here is, how many miles does this engine have on it? Upping the compression on an older engine could mean disaster. One good romp and rods can go flying etc. i have seen this more times that I care to mention.
Also do you have headers and true dual exhaust? I am not trying to say you shouldn't do any of the things mentioned, but you mentioned KISS. Heads and a cam is not KISS in my book. Exhaust, roller rockers and new intake w/EFI is. Heads are simple, cam is a PITA to replace, too much has to come apart to get it in. JMHO.
Thanks Skybolt. This was the type of info I was needing. You are right on engine coming apart. Engine shows 85k miles. Engine will be pulled and rebuilt. Just when I start going back together with it would like to change things. When I mentioned KISS it, I meaning not have to start changing out mounting components and refitting the engine back in the compartment. I read some horror stories on this happening spending a lot of money and it still not be right.
