Not really sure how to explain this..but here goes...Have a 1978 L-82 with original stock 4 barrel carburetor ...car is all stock..all original...all smog components...etc...all vacuum lines appear ok ...when car is running if I rev the motor...there seems like there is a dead spot..as if no gas for a second or two at the very begging ...then engine revs up ok....just seems like always at the begging.... I know nothing about carbs....but had the car in the shop not to long ago and had new wires,plugs,rotor...etc...all changed....any advice on what I might be looking for...???
Don't really want to change the carb...but just in case I do have a new old stock carb still in wrapper and box...and another original carb that has had a show quality restoration done to it by Custom Rebuilt Carburetors LLC...but would like to hold off changing it if its not to hard of a fix
Thanks
I had some similar responses on my 78 L82 and had the carb rebuilt. Purred nicely afterward.
I would check all your vacuum connections and if you know that the fuel pump is not acting up, suspect the carb. It is not that big of a job to change out the carb to narrow the problem...I'm sure you have done much of this before.
Take off the air cleaner lid, prop open the choke.
When you actuate the throttle you should see a strong squirt of fuel into the primaries (the area under the propped open choke).
If not or a weak squirt you need to replace the boot on the accelerator pump.

Take the lid off the air cleaner and look for a shot of fuel down the carb when you open the throttle before moving on to any thing else. Anything more than that is just throwing darts, you need to verify the accelerator pump is working before any further diagnosis is warranted. Don't worry about replacing it until you know its bad.
