Default windshield wiper problem

I have a '71 , I have to shut the wipers using the **** under the dash . If I don't the wiper keeps moving back and forth like it is trying
work .
There was a post several years ago , I couldn't find it .
Any help you can give me will be very appreciated.

Hi L,
Trying to understand.
The door is closed, the wipers off.
You push the wiper switch to start them, the door opens, and the wipers sweep.
You push the wiper switch to off, but the wipers keep sweeping, you turn the center **** under the steering column, the wipers stop.
Where do the wipers stop? If you stop them in the down position does the door close?
If you turn the switch the other way do they begin to sweep? Are the wipers still on the windshield when you start them with the wiper switch?
Have you done any work on the wiper switch or it's wiring lately?
???
Regards,
Alan

Default wind shield wiper problem

Allen thanks for the reply , If I turn the wiper switch on nothing
happens , I have to turn the over ride switch then the wiper will
work , they will go like a bugger . When I shut the wiper switch off ,
the wipers will go down , then they will while they are down the wipers will bounce .Then I have go to the over ride switch to shut wipers
down .

I don't if it is the wiper switch , it was replaced about a year or so
go .

Hi L,
The Wiper Arm Control Switch is to be left in the ON position EXCEPT to stop the wipers on the windshield in mid-sweep.
If when you push the normal Wiper Switch to the on position nothing happens the first thing to check is the Wiper Door Solenoid mounted to the back of the tachometer. This solenoid completes the vacuum signal to the Wiper Door Relay to send the vacuum to the Wiper Door Actuator. The door must be fully open before the wipers operate.
Once the door is completely open the linkage on the wiper door mechanism closes the electrical circuit at the Wiper Door Limit switch on mounted on the firewall and the wipers start.
All these components must be working for the wiper switch to operate the wipers.
Does the wiper door open and close using the Vacuum Manual Over Ride mounted to the right of the Wiper Arm Control Switch?
Regards,
Alan

Wiper Door Solenoid Valve on tachometer case.

Wiper Door Actuator.

Wiper door Limit Switch.
