I think Allen's makes quite a few systems for different suppliers....I have their aluminized 2 1/2" on my '72 small block....I love the sound and everything fit great except I had to swap sides with the tips.
Any difference in the mfg's of chambered exhaust systems?? Any particular one's better than others? Thanks for any suggestions...
Stainless Works makes a great stainless chambered exhaust system. I installed on a '69 L46 and it sounded great. It gave me the lound sound of sidepipes but with a system under the car through stock routing.
In my looking at different vendors I saw some advertised for header systems. I am looking at stock style applications so I really didn't note header systems.
Anyone use Paragon Corvette applications?
Went ahead and ordered from Paragon...made by Allen's
I just bought some from Eckler's and they were on sale, so the price was comparatively good. Just arrived, not even on the car yet but I'm 90% sure they're manufactured by Allen's.
I was planning to mount them on the stock exhaust manifolds as I can't seem to find the right headers. Anyone know if they'll fit okay, other issues?
Allen's stainelss is a good company and located here in Indiana. Until if found a great deal on a set of hooker side pipes, i was planning on installing a set of headers and Allen's chambered pipes. My dad had a system made for his 90 ZR-1 last year. They wanted to use his car as a test of their jigs so he got a price break. They made a temporary system for him to test the jig and then made a permanent system out of stainless. It is a deep throaty sound and is very different coming out of a 4 cam motor. I can always tell it is him when he takes off of the line at an autocross.
Allen's bought all the original tooling from GM to make the chambered exhaust on the mid year vettes. If you are looking for exact duplicate side pipes for a 63-67, they are the ones to go to.
They make everything from sections to replace the mufflers to complete manifold or header back systems. They have systems to replace the 69 style side pipe mufflers with chambered pipes like the midyears. They even make tubes to bolt to header flanges and dump under the car. They make systems in aluminized steel or stainless steel.
I just purchased a set from Wilcox. Great people to deal with. I believe they are a distributor of the Allen systems. My vette has headman headers and the setup I received went in well. You will need to cut the pipe to fit which goes from the header collector to the pipes that go through the transmission brace. Since I have the body separated from the frame I can't do a final fitting until it's back together . Just my .02
Mike didn't buy the GM tooling I believe he made his own and he did a fine job.. Years ago and I'm going wayyyyyyyyyyy back.. When he first started up I supplied him with some original stuff and we've been buddies since.
Here are the two systems we offer... The state II is probably our most popular system too.. It sounds great with a beater camshaft and it sounds great with a stock one. Either system can be ordered for a car with headers as well.
