I am looking at putting larger brakes on my '73. Nothing too extreme, but perhaps the Baer 13" system to fit under a 17" wheel that will go with a Ridetech system. The question is what is everyone doing for a replacement backing plate when going to larger brakes? Just leaving it off, modifying a new larger backing plate to match, something else? Thanks in advance!!
This is the brake backing plate that goes behind the disc. Just wondering if everyone is going without or using a C5 or C6 backing plate with modifications when going with larger brakes. Not sure if the C5 backing plate will fit without mods.
I have seen guys run the original A/F/X disc brake baking plate with stock brakes, but not with big brakes. I don't know of anyone even making them for bigger brakes.
This is the response I got from Baer when I asked them about it. No, none. In fact sincemost of systems are larger than OE, we usually advise removal of the dustshields to allow for clearance.
Thanks Rodney. Will be ordering one of your level 2 systems in the next few weeks. Look forward to seeing all the parts in my garage and starting to put on my fresh frame.
