You have just fallen into the "Aftermarket Foreign Parts" abyss....

Dimensional accuracy of such parts is not their 'strong suit'. When buying such parts, thorough check-out for function is required. Or, the vehicle will check that out for you and will let you know when there is a problem.

P.S. I HATE being the beta-test site for shi++y parts.

You're right 71, everything is crap these days. I can guarantee you I got those parts from NAPA and they checked out application for me.

Most likely China crap which has bitten me more than I like to say.

Make sure you recheck the timing after you get it all back together.

Update:

So after new cap/rotor, plugs, fuel pump and GF432 filter it runs great until I hit this exact wall of around 4500 rpm. Timing, dwell wires are all good.

Now I'm thinking secondary air valve on the Qjet which has always been set right but maybe something is sticking or spring loss its corrrect tension. Might as well open her up and go thru the motions of resetting everything. Qjet filter still a possibility so maybe pull that and see.

Sure enough, secondary hanger cam that lifts the rod hanger has come completely loose from shaft and just spins around.

Waiting back for Lars to see how to fix, otherwise new top/airhorn from local carb shop is on the list.

So plastic secondary hanger cam ended up being broken in half due a stupid Bubba move I did. My air cleaner stud had stripped threads inside the air horn section so I put JB down the tube thinking it was closed to the rest of the carb. Well if you look close it opens back up after about an inch down right by the secondary hanger cam. So I inadvertently locked the cam up and broke it. I could not find the other piece which probably ended up down the intake and who knows what damage it did. It was plastic so at 200 deg maybe it just melted.

But good news is I had spare parts and put new cam on shaft and car runs like bat out of hell now. Probably didnt have secondaries for 6 months since didnt do that much WOT and primaries were fine.

Lesson learned.
