engine running hot
I have a '79 C3 with a 2008 LS3 and a 5-speed Hurst manual transmission. I am running a BeCool aluminum "Big Block" radiator and single electric puller fan in the center of the radiator with an aluminum shroud. I am not certain but it looks like the shroud funnels all the air through the fan.
I am having trouble with the temperature creeping up and up when sitting in traffic. My understanding is the LS3 is comfortable around 210º or 220º but mine goes up to 230 then 240 then... more.
Can anyone help with ideas to help get the temps down? I have thought that perhaps I need a vented hood, thinking hot air is getting trapped in the engine compartment and not flowing through freely. It's pretty cramped with engine & accessories. Or perhaps I need more fan - either larger single or 2 small fans or push & pull fans. Or an oil cooler, although I don't know where I could put it to get fresh air flow.
Anyway, thank you in advance for any guidance or advice!
Ben
The air isn't getting trapped in the engine compartment, as there is lots of room underneath the engine for the air to escape.
My guess would be your single fan isn't doing the job, or the shroud isn't allowing full use of the rad.....show us some pics.
