Ugh!! Always something! This I don't understand! Finally got the fuel problem figured out. It was a injector. Now I have no spark. I put a ignition spark tester between the distributor wire and coil and got nothing. It turns over and just won't start. If this helps when I was doing my fuel problem troubleshooting I actually poured gas into the throttle bodies and it started for like a second or two. I got the module tested and it is good. My readings for the coil are .7 on 200 ohms selection for the red and yellow wires. Then checking the center part of the coil and the ground wire it shows 8.63 set on 20k ohms. What do y'all suggest? Cause according to the Internet this is within spec.. This car is driving me insane!!
It seems to me that there is a loose connection or short somewhere causing the "no spark condition".
Do some basics.....
1-check the distributor outside area and make sure all connections are secure.
2-take off the coil cover and make sure the wires do not have any breaks in them, (mine did at one time and the engine would shut off for a few seconds and then come on when the wire(s) touched again. Lights went out, etc., left me stranded on the road, got home and found the broken coil wire under the coil cover.)
3-you mentioned you got the ignition module tested, you may have not totally or completely reconnected the connectors to the module...recheck
4-make sure you apply the correct lube between the ignition module (underneath) and the plate it attaches to, otherwise the intense heat will fry the module in a short time.
Do not give up on the 82, just take your time, it will all work out. Started mine today and took for a short ride, runs great.
Refer to the "sticky" for more complete info on our CFI 82's.
I need to do some updated maintenance on that thread.....
Good luck........Tom
Quick and dirty test for the pickup coil/ ignition module. Pull the tach lead off the cap and connect a 12v testlight between that terminal and a ground. Crank the engine. If the testlight flashes, the module and pickup coil are both doing their thing.
Roadster what kind of lube? Ok timat thanks I'll try that out.
Thermal Compound, comes in a small white tube. Radio Shack stores use to stock it. Since they are no longer around, could probably purchase from computer store or online. Or Silicone Grease can be used. Use a thin coat on the bottom of the module, make sure to cover the entire area, then reinstall.
Hey timat so basically I have everything connected like it should then I just unplug the rpm wire and put the test light to the coil spade for the rpm right? Not the rpm wire itself?
Ok well I went ahead and replaced the coil cause it was missing its ground metal connector. So I did the light test and both the rpm and the battery spades light up when turned over yet still no spark now what!
Wait a minute there is spark just wasn't seeing it in the day time. So I got spark now where??
Go to our "sticky" and read and perform all of the items under "NO START CONDITION(S)"
This you can start from the beginning and check one item or one system at a time. And then as you perform each function on the list, you then can start eliminating possible causes for your "No Start".
Yes, it takes time, but you will save time and frustration going through everything one by one. Plus it will help you to understand how your vehicle operates. We never stop learning, it is an ongoing process by which we benefit. Keep us posted..........Tom
