Default Rocker panel trim mounting

My rocker panel trim was not mounted when I bought the car, it was kind of a basket case. I've looked at this a couple times, and the mounting has seemed confusing, but I think that's because it's the usual sh**show of rusted and broken bolts, as evidenced by the fact that this kit exists: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corvette-rocker-panel-molding-mounting-kit-1970-1982.html I think I can drill or otherwise handle all these holes accept the rear ones. Those seem to have no material to screw into, they hang in space. Has some Bubba action happened on this car that there's nothing to screw to? See picture. Thanks all!

This is about where the rocker trim screw would go.

Hi B,
It appears that the lower piece of the rear fender's 'dogleg' has been broken off.
You might try to fabricate a small piece yourself or search for a piece from a smashed rear clip that someone might have.
Regards,
Alan

I went through this just yesterday on my car... same front dogleg missing on the passenger side... after mounting and securing the rest of the holes I found its really not needed..(I seem to remember a second scre hole someone may have added though about 5 inches away from that first hole though.) . coincidentally I had to dremel the bottom of the rocker near there to clear the sidepipes on that side..

Not certain of your car's year..but on my '78 the rocker panels were secured by 6 x10/24 black oval head phillips head machine screws about 3/4" long.
The front one or two and rear one or two were screwed into small threaded clips that fit behind the car's body..The others went into threaded holes integral to the car's metalwork..Mine all came out after soaking with PB blaster overnight.I replaced all screws and back nuts with stainless..Jim

Hi B,
Here are the original rocker trim fasteners from the right side of a 71.
The front of the trim is to the right.
The first screw varied as to it's configuration but all used a U-nut that slipped onto a fiberglass flange just to the rear of the front wheel opening.
Regards,
Alan

Here's the fiberglass 'tab' without the u-nut. The screw comes up from the bottom. Later 73+(?) rocker trim doesn't have the tab on the trim.
