Default Install 74 Left dash panel

I am getting ready to reinstall the drivers side dash panel on my 74 and wonder the best way to reattach the speedo and tach cables. I have the panel in place and it is very tight trying to get the cables hooked up again. I am wondering if it would be easier to unhook the cables from the tach and tranny and would I get some extra length that would make it easier to attach at the back then hook them back up on the other end? Anyone done this one lately? What is the easyist way to finish this up? I have the steering column out and the interior is removed so plenty of room, except it seems real tight where the wiring harness meets the center air ducting and I don't want to break anything. Thanks, Wells :flag :flag

Wells, I don't envy you at all. When I had to do that job I ended up taking the seat out and while laying on the floor pushed the tach and speedo connectors in from the back. You can give yourself some slack with the cables by disconnecting them from the distributor and the tranny but once their connected you only have to put all that stuff back again. Try it first without disconnecting anything and see if it works. It's a crappy job but it can be done.

For sure take the seat out. It's also easier with the steering wheel removed and the steering column bolts loose so it will drop down a bit. Reach in from the top and blindly try to plug the cables into their respective holes in the Tach and Speedo. It can be done, but itsa PITA.

I only had the speedo to deal with and it was not too bad from the bottom after everything else was in place. The seat out definitely helps.
