I have a 70 Road Runner with no A/C. What saves me are two huge floor vents that direct fresh air from the outside into the cabin. At speed they can be pretty formidable and help cool the cabin.
Not so my 71 C3. Equipped with A/C ( as soon as it is repaired ) Has anyone ever found a way to route outside air directly to the cabin, possibly through the existing vent outlets ? ( now, they just add more hot air )
Thanks, Tim

You might check the control HVAC switch mech in your car..IF vacuum is working you can possibly switch just the temp control to VENT to get outside air in..IF working properly..it closes a diverter flap in the ductwork and maybe also shuts off the hot water..Not sure if your system has a hot water shut off vac line or not..Depending on outside temp..it may not be cool but other than rolling windows down or maybe removing the t tops..that's about it..
I miss the manual lever on the hood cowl of my 36 Chev that opened up outside air vent for the old car..Seems like simple stuff that worked has been made more complicated as the years pass..Jim

Had the same vents in my 67 GTO + those window vents you could turn all the way around. Who needed A/C with all that ventilation....until you stopped
hum, the astro ventilation the early c3 had, I guess they had to give it a clever name to make up for removed vent wings that were normal on cars back then,
My non ac 69 has the ducts and vents and all and I set them up and turned off the heater water and it still was a case of warm to hot Florida air piping through the cockpit,
I also have hooker side pipes which cant be helping, perhaps the astro worked when new or on pristine cars but it didn't reduce the airs temp,
The rear deck vent is also blocked off on A/C cars.
The astro ventilation was actually to "eliminate" the problem of people suffocating from exhaust fumes, not so much for cooling / hvac. Thus the fan had no real off setting.
In FL a/c is a requirement, not so much in the north east. .. except for today 95 deg & 85% humidity.
here in Eustis fl we were just up at the store I stayed in car watching traffic thinking at near 100 degrees how bright and smoldering hot out that even if the 69 was running and I had the top up no way I could stand this, so while I boast my car will be a sound daily driver, nope, not until I install AC.....
...On A/C 'Vettes, can the block off plates be removed? Even with a saw? My car is far from original....
Do you have the AIM? For AC cars, the AIM shows where the cowl vents were blocked off and what you'll have to do to get to them. You can then follow the AIM diagrams to install the vents.
Here's where you're going. For factory air cars, both of these are blocked off:
I do have an AIM, though I haven't looked at the ventilation system; this post just got me curious. Those block off plates are only accessible with the fenders off, or was that just a nice clear way to see them? I will be putting speakers in the kick panels, so opening up those vents may not be a good thing? A/C will eventually be fixed anyway(in a few years maybe), but it would be nice to have more airflow for the time being.
