Robert8096--How did you like your 68 & 69 Chargers? When the vette is all done I would like to buy a Charger to add to the garage, but was never sure what the owners thought of them. Also, was the 4 speed hard to find?
When i regularly drove my vette, i never got challenged by ricers. my exaust sucks, so thats not it, im really not sure why. mustangs and neons though.... which a neon may as well be rice, but technically... oh, ive never lost a race with a stang or neon. and ive raced everyone thats challenged me. i know ill lose some day, as i lost pleanty in my 85' Trans am, but so far i have a good record in the vette.
i was on the highway once (when i had the 3.55s, not 4.11s) doin about 65. a neon came up beside me. it down shifted hard. i just gun it and blasted by him. so at a steady 75 he caught up and did it again. so i burned him again. now were at 105 and he does it again! i just gun it and got about 10-15 car lengths ahead of him and he gave up. i wanted to hit the brakes and laugh as he came up, but i felt sorry.
a note on rice: Toyota supra TTs, 300zx TTs, RX7s and the like are all fast cars. i would think twice before racing any of these. and then i would race them :smash:
467-Ratman-Exceelent! Been there too many times. I love when I line up with a ricer at the strip. I'm usually picking up my time slip while they're still finishing.   The ricer generation don't really have any respect of American muscle.

Thanks to the movie "The Fast and the Furious" my 12 year old son thinks these "Ricer" cars are the best thing on earth! I have told him that when the NOS bottle in there cars runs out, my BB will still be flying! I guess its time to take him out and run through the quarter mile, then we will see what he thinks!
Man, you need to spend some quality time with your son. Any Corvette owner with a 12 year old son that like ricers may be kicked out of the fraternity   One trip to the track should do it though.
John
I really liked the part at the end when the Toy car was racing the Charger, that quarter mile lasted for about 3 minutes but sure was fun. Oh and the sound of the motor, you can't get that with a 16v 4 banger!!! Long live old fashioned HP!
Hate to tell ya this but that "toy" was a Supra TT, that 2JZ-GTE motor without juice can be modded well past 850-900hp. While it certinly looked ghey in the movie I wouldn't exactly call it rice... unless you're using the term "rice" to describe anyting imported from Aisa.
Also that yellow 4dr car that one of the lesser characters drives was no slouch either... the Skyline GTR VspecII is something like 600hp outta the box, as is sold all over the rest of the world. Its not street leagle in the US.
Now I've dusted some fockers with a snapped cam, busted u-joint and a hole punched in a lifter easy. But those were your four cyl types - Civics, Tegs, Eclipses, etc. Those are the ones I think of as rice.

Fast ricers can be fun. Mine is pretty peppy. Most people think I am slow so its funny watching their surprise as I blow by them. One of my last contenders was an LT1 Vette. He put forth a valiant effort. :)

PS: I still respect all forms of muscle, just saying its fun having a butt-kicking 4-banger once in awhile too. Something like this: http://www.bensrallypage.com/forsale...ws_mirage.html would be the ultimate in stealth, highly upgradable, and not cost a lot of money either.
A while back when I was building my 73 Datsun 240z I remember being sent a link to a thread on this forum about a trash talking guy with a C5 who got spanked 3 outta 3 and lost $100 by a rather smart ricer with a GReaddy street Civic...

I helpped build a 5spd 500hp front wheel drive 4dr Toyote Camry sleeper... You should see peoples faces when we rip em a new a-hole at the track. :D
Nice. I wouldn't mind having an old Z like that too. :) There's a place near me (www.jagsthatrun.com) that does V8 conversions. Probably throws off weight distribution but would be a fun drive. :)
Well I took my boys out for a real run last night and they are still smiling! Now my youngest son wants me to cut a hole in the hood and make it like the Charger on fast and furious! I may have started something!

Wow, 500hp out of a camry?

I bought my Vette as a heap so I could do the 350 swap in my Datsun... Poor Man's Cobra baby Hooker side pipes and all!!!
I was gonna strip the Vette body but then I fell in love with her :)
I have an MPEG video I'll post when I find it of a 71 240z with a 95 or so LT1 and 6spd swap!
That Camry has a modded 3S-GTE motor in it, its the turbo'd 2.0L 4cyl from the ST185 Cellica all trac (aka GT4) but I know of several MR2's making 500rwhp on their stock 5S-FE blocks (with built internals) which is the same motor as the Gen3 Camrys and mid early 90's Cellica GT's
Hate to tell ya this but that "toy" was a Supra TT, that 2JZ-GTE motor without juice can be modded well past 850-900hp.
That's where the line "Racing a Honda(or in this case, Toyota) is like competing in the special olympics...even if you win, your still retarded" is dead-on. :D
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.

Well said, Eric
I live in Europe and the influence of asian cars is much greater here than in the USA.
Honda, Mitsubishi, Lexus/Toyota, Daihatsu, Nissan, Hyundai, .....
Although german cars are here much more appreciated, I personally wouldn´t underestimate the imports.
Take an accurate look at the construction techniques they are using. Most of them are highly sophisticated. Just for an example take a look at the Audi 80. Is has a solid rear axle, no IRS. Ever seen something like this on a Ricer same year? Exept off-roaders?
Don´t compare small cube 4 cyl. engines with the big V8 motors american muscle cars have. Just see it from a technical view. Compare the HP/cui ratio and you would stop immediately bashing these cars. I´m pretty sure you can do the math ;)
Well, enough said, do you remember my thread testdriving the Honda S2000?
I´ll never forget the answers I got here. Very narrow minded....
One narrow minded crowd racing another narrow minded crowd. :nonod:
Ricer= One who thinks their car is bad **** when it isn't... be it a Cvic, Corvette, Supra, Mustang, Ferrari, Acura, etc...

Since this is a V8 forum, I'm sure you all know that big horspower numbers are just numbers, POWER is area under the curve. Tubo small-displacement motors are peaky things, a Supra TT can have 800hp at 8,000 rpm with only 250hp at 4,000 rpm. I'll take a mountain sized helping of torque any day. Also, rice tuners can ice the intercooler, run race gas, up the boost and find a nice cool day to post a big number on the dyno - numbers never to be repeated on the street.
