I am in the process of helping a friend replace the rear bumper on his 1974 Corvette as the stock rubber bumper has deteriorated. I understand the original was a rubber two piece but this car is just a nice driver and the owner has no interest in NCRS correct. He just wants the car fixed in the most economical way that will look good. So after spending an entire 5 minutes looking at the options it appears he wants to use a fiberglass replacement? What are the advantage or disadvantages of the different bumpers? Is there a certain manufacture or vendor that has a good/better product I should be using? Anything else I should know before starting this project? Thanks

Tail lights and tail light mounting are one year only for 74. When choosing the replacement bumper cap, you will need to see whether it uses stock tail lights or 75 and later replacements.

My '74 came with front and rear fiberglass replacement bumpers when I got it. No seam in the rear bumper, which would have been my preference were I replacing it. I don't like the seam myself, even though factory would have one, and they do make them in 'glass with a seam in them to simulate original.
When the stock rear bumper on my '74 began to crack, I consulted the local Corvette restoration shop and they recommended an ACI fiberglass unit. It's been on for 8 years and have not had any problems.
We have very few issues with them. The only thing you have to remember is that from car to car there were variances in the fenders and quarters. While one cover may on one car with ease that same bumper may not be easy on a different car.
I was going to offer you two 74 fiberglass bumpers both needing a bit of fiberglass work I removed but you don`t accept PM`s or e-mails, so anyone else reading this in need of a couple of 74 bumpers at a decent price, send me a PM
