Default Headlight Replacement

Last night I started my 73 flipped on the lights and noticed one of my headlights was out. I'm not planning to do any upgrades at this time and just want to switch out the low beam lights.
My question is, how do I keep the headlight doors open to swap the lights?
When I turn off the lights, the doors close.
When I shut off the engine, the doors close.

Not sure on a '73 but on my '70 you have a little black valve hanging down from under the dash below the steering column, this is the overide to keep your headlights open when the engine is off. You can also reach up to the headlight mechanism from under the front of the car and push the headlight open when the engine is off. You have to push on the mechanism you can't pull or lever the headlight open or you will damage something.

FWIW: all C3s had a headlight override. If Bubba left it alone, it'll be there.

You can see the over-ride in the photo to the right side
of the brake on my 73.

Thanks Guys, I was wondering what that was for.
While we are looking in that area, there is another **** just to the right of the override and I was wondering what that one is for?

If you mean the one to the left of the over-ride on my photo,
that is the dial for the trip meter. You push it up and turn to reset
the trip meter below the odometer.

Hi Donnie. Your 73 and mine appear to be clones. No, the **** I have is a third one to the right of the over ride. It must be the Bubba switch. Does the over ride, toggle, twist, or pull down to activate the head light over ride?

You just pull the over-ride down to activate it. I don't know what the
other switch could be. Maybe something the previous owner added.
