Default Threw my alternator belt & leaking fuel

1971 LT-1

No A/C but has the air pump

Can you confirm the replacement belt model No. & width & length please ?

I've threaded a length of string round the pulleys and it seems to be 38 1/2" inside the pulleys ?

Also, I found it as having filled up with fuel for a run out tomorrow, when I was back on my drive there was fuel leaking out from just back of the egg crate on the drivers side. It's coming from a hose that connects to the charcoal canister and while unusual, this is quite normal and just a sign that I filled it too much I think ?

Cheers,

Stuart

Yep, that is the way to bet. No worries after you run a round for a few miles.

Thanks Bill

[QUOTE=Alan 71;1592689173]Hi Stuart,
I wouldn't want to drive with liquid fuel accumulated in the vapor canister.
AFTER lowering the fuel level in the fuel tank I'd disconnect the rubber hose leading from hard line on the frame rail to the vapor canister which will allow the fuel to drain from the hard line.
I'd then pry off the bottom cover from the canister to allow any accumulated fuel in the canister to drain out.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan. Thanks for that but what's the worst that can happen by just running it off a little

I have the AIM for the 72 but that being a base coupe I wouldn't trust it to provide the correct alternator belt size for the LT-1 ??

Cheers,

Stuart

Great pics as usual Alan

RE the belt, assuming you have the old one...bring to auto store for new one. And belts are labeled with their size and width.

Hi Mike.

The codes are pretty worn. I've done a rubbing, used a magnifying glass and tried to blow it up on my mobile phone camera and the best I can get to is GM 3047704 TH 300 x 5275 37 355 20

I was hoping I'd see 38 1/2" x 5/16" or similar

Can the code above be interpreted ?

Cheers,

Stuart

Hi Stuart, This what you need. I am using the delco with no problem. ('70 LT1 w/pump)
From Rock Auto
GATES 7325 {Click Info Button for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers} High Capacity V-Belt (Standard); 13/32" x 33-1/8" InfoFitsFan; Manual steering
OrAir Pump; W/Hi Performance Engine

ACDELCO 15325 {#88934287} Professional|Standard; 13/32" x 33-1/8" InfoFitsFan; Manual steering
OrAir Pump; W/Hi Performance Engine
Also; what is the diameter of your alternator pulley? I know for 1970 it should be 3 3/16"

Wish I could help, but all I've got here is the engine sans all the accessory, belt-driven bits, and mine doesn't have the air pump, anyway. Tomorrow I can do some research and see if things agree with TMan. DUB is also a very reliable source.

If the fuel separator mounted to the left side of the fuel tank is working properly, you should not be getting liquid fuel going to the vapor canister. You should check that device out.

Thanks toylman.

It turns out to be 53" and a UK supplier came good today and dispatched all three belts for me.

Cheers,

Stuart

My mechanic is going to check when he changes the belts this week. I would do it myself but I'm out of town all week and I plan on a show trip this coming weekend.

The smog pump belt is a relatively short belt going around the outer water pulley grove and the pump pulley as shown on the AIM belt routing page. The Alternator belt would be the 53" one.

Very nice clean set up there tolyman

Your code was correct for the ACDELCO belt thanks

So hopefully all three are correct and the codes are there for anyone else that needs them..

Cheers,

Stuart
