A lot depends on traction too. If you have a car that has traction problems with say 4.11 gear, going to higher gearing, lower numerically, may help with traction.
If there is abundant traction lower gearing, higher numerically, will usually accelerate quicker and get better 60 foot times.
That being said, in drag racing you usually want to go through the traps at max RPM for your engine in high gear. Not overdrive though, 1 to 1 transmission gearing. Direct is the most efficient gear. This is probably not how you would want to gear a street car, unless of course you have overdrive for street/highway use.

Thx Mike,
So a good idea would be, keep the 3.70, if the wheels doesn't spin @ WOT in first, then go for 4.11?

I don't know that the extra pull with 4.11 over 3.70 for the street would be worth the money and trouble. You would feel the difference, but not a huge difference. Not like if you were going from 2.86 or 3.08 gears.

With 3:70 gears and a strong running engine, you are already on the edge of maximum traction. Unless you are going to slicks or some serious sticky tires, the tiny fraction of a second gain isn't worth it. Ripping out of first into second at 30 mph is fun but at 20 mph screaming past redline is looking for trouble down the road. IMHO
If you're not going to be running the car on a track and you already have a 3.70 rearend, I think you should go with the 3.70. The 4.11 gear would make the car quicker if you have traction, however the 4.11 rear will give you more mechanical advantage making it more likely that you would have traction problems.
