HEI distributor for a '74
I have a '74 that I want to put an HEI dist on but do not want to spend a lot on one right now. I am eventually going to pull the motor and do a rebuild, so just need something to replace the tired points dist that's in it. I see Eckler's has one, pn 25-161505-1, that is on sale now for $99. I know it's not the best quality, but it may fit my needs for now. Anyone have any experience with one of these ?

I bought one off ebay for my 72 with a tach drive. I paid about 130.00 for it and it works like a champ. all the internal parts are replaceable with ac delco or after market such as msd.

FWIW: the Pertronix conversion will allow you to keep your original tach drive distributor.

@Sunrise7, I'm doing the same conversion, however in my case I made my decision after I bought a carb-to-pan motor that had the HEI distributor with tach cable included. What's that mean? I have pertronix conversion AND flame thower coil that has less than 500 miles on it; PM me if you're interested.

also remember changing to HEI means your Air cleaner, and Dist. chrome shielding may no longer fit without modification.
