Default Do 70 and 79 rear side marker lights interchange?

I thought I had to buy new rear side marker lights for the 70 rear clip I'm putting on my 79 and was looking at them on ebay. Some said fits 70-74 some said fits 74-77, some said fits 73-82 and some said fits 74-82. I'd sure like to avoid spending $130 U.S. if I can. In looking at the picture it appears the 70 and 79 rear side marker lights are the same except the 70 is made of metal and the 79 is made of plastic. Is that right, can I use my 79 rear side marker lights in my 70-73 rear clip?

Take one off the car and try putting it in the new one. If it doesn't fit , you might be able to modify things to make them fit.

I don't have ready access to the back of my 79 so I can't do that at this time. I have been advertising for a set of 70 side marker lights so I'm wondering if I need to continue to do so.

They were different lamps... 74-82 used a plastic lamp with these large plastic studs, where the 1970-1973 cars used a cast housing with smaller studs.. will they fit in the same hole? I don't know but I can check this tomorrow for you. Drop me an email to Support@Willcoxcorvette.com as a reminder and when I get in the office tomorrow I'll check.

The size of the studs aren't a concern as I'm putting them in an aftermarket clip where the holes haven't been cut out yet. As long as they fit in the rectangular depression for the light I'm good.

I got an email from Willcox today for anyone else wondering:

"Yes it fit like a glove.. I put a 1970 in a 1979 rear quarter panel I have today.".

Thanks so much!
