I hooked up my trans thing to my intake. Set my carb as best as I could and set my initial timing up to 12-14 deg.advance...pulled out of the drive way gunned it, now low end really. What could be ther problem??I heard the XE-262 was GREAT for low-end??
I have the same problem. 3.36 diff, TH350, ex 256 cam, ported 882 heads with 2.02/1.6 valves, perf intake port matched, headers, tuned carb/ignition = 226 rwhp.......still can't smoke 'em. Hits 2000rpm and takes off!
I suspect torque conv and am thinking of replacing with a 2400 stall.
try advancing the timing even more. i found my 72 really jumps with an extra 2 degrees. have to listen for the dreaded ping, however.
i assume it has electronic ignition.?

Yeah, but CompCams said this cam is fine for stock convertors.
I have always found that small block auto C3's are just not tire torchers out of the hole. Most of the later cars are heavy and with with IRS/Weight distribution they are not apt to getting real loose out of the hole. I am now running a 70or4 with a 3.55 gear, am just now gettin squeal off the line. Car lauches hard, but it won't do a 350 tpi, straight axle iroc camaro blow the tires away routine.
My 2 cents: You've done a lot of mods to increase your upper rpm power. So, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that your low end lags a little. Take it out to the track, you might be pleasantly surprised!! That kind of powerband can be very beneficial coming off the line. Might change your whole outlook on things! Good Luck!
I was talking to my buddy Jeff (no-radio) and he said that since I'm still running open headers A. The carb isn't going to tune right. and B. Exhaust adds backpressure, which will help add a little more torque. He said I really shouldn't worry about it too much until I get full exhaust, tune it and then worry.
Aaron, is your carb a DP or vacuum secondary? If its a DP you'll make more low-end torque and run quicker if you replace it with a vacuum secondary carb that's set up properly. Leave the DP's to the stick shift cars or automatics with higher stall converters (3,500 RPM and up). Deen
I posed this same question a while back. I'm running the xe262, 1.52 magnum rollers, performer intake, 670 holley street avenger, hooker comp headers, true dual's, 3.55 rear, th350 trans.
Some of the answers I received were somewhat lame, however a few were valid. I sent an email to Comp Cams to question them. Bottom line, my engine starts to produce around 2500-3000. I leave rubber from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd - but can't manage anything from a stop.
Comp cams - said this is what I should expect with this cam. I'm somewhat disappointed, I was wanting more low end. But I do have to admit, if I'm rolling at 25 - throw her down into first and my 25-100 is fairly impressive.
I have a 600 vac sec and when I put on my 750 sp I felt a diff off the line even when keeping off the sec. I think a 650dp might be better and hope to stumble across one. What's one more carb? :)
