ok bad news, my 350 tranny died on my 81 vette and i want to make it a standard. i havent had much luck finding parts to convert it over, but i got into my winter rat (86 camaro) and it looks like everything is in the same spot. the center consol, even looks about the same. so my question is, is it possible to use standrd parts out of camaro's to convert my vette. parts like the linkages, and bellhouseing. get back to me please, i cant wait to start making it a standard. gravismaximus@aol.com :chevy
Re: camaro standard= vette standard (gravismaximus)
Ummmm - I doubt it. You 86 probabvly has a Borg Warner T-5 in it - different location for the shifter (center vs. side mount - further along length of trans). pedals and z-bar are almost certainly different - (the vette motor is offset in the car (i.e. not down the centerline) so the z-bar and linkage is probably very different.)
Bellhousing - I think the T-5 has a different pattern so unless you are putting the T-5 inyour car - not reccommended as the T-5 is a fairly weak tranny - a T-10 or ST-10 may not bolt up.
About the only thing I can think of that should be the same is the flywheel/clutch disk/pressureplate/ throw out bearing. When I say same I mean they will bolt up - they are NOT the same parts that would have appeared on your vette if it had a stick.
I think thats about it. Others will hopefully chime in and correct or add to what I said.

Your 86 manual has a different bellhousing that works for the T5. You can bolt a t-10 to it and it will be about 18 or so degrees rotated. Your 86 has a hydraulic clutch. So to answer your question all the 86 stuff would work as a unit. You would have to fab the clutch master. I don't know if the clutch slave would pose any clearance problems. I don't know about tunnel clearance. After all that work you would have a corvette with a weak 5 speed. I would look at other ways of doing it and other transmissions.

Possibility also exista that the crankshaft was not machined for a pilot bushing since you have original automatic. Just another item that needs to be checked.
You are better off contacting a 'vette junkyard and getting a set of pedals, limkage, etc from a manual car.
