Foam insulator top of transmission
Anyone know if a 1969 L46 car with a 4 spd trans had the foam insulator at the top of the bell housing---to seal up space between bell housing and tunnel??
Thanks for any help..

Hi Rio,
From the information I have it appears the foam collar began being used for the 69 model year.
Regards,
Alan
So if you're trying to be accurate… no, but if you're trying to cut down heat in the interior using one would help.

Hi,
I misread the year of your car. I thought it was a 68.
From what I read I believe even an early build 69 would have the foam collar.
Sorry!

Alan

Thks....I'm sure that it will help heat/noise issues. The bell housing showed no signs of one being there but it had been totally painted. So I fihured someone had been there before.

Hi,
I didn't find any glue residue from the collar on my 71.
I don't know if any was typically used.

Alan

The collar was held in place on the bell housing by a thin film of what looked like clear double stick tape. It's rare to find one still intact but from time to time we will find one. The new foam collar won't have anything on it but we place a little bit of black 3m 08008 weatherstrip glue on the bottom and on the bell housing and allow it to dry. Then we place another coat on the collar and position it in place (like using contact cement). For the glue to stick to the housing it must be very clean.

I used no adhesive, and its still sitting right where I put it. Not sure how it would come out as its pretty tight in there....but maybe it will move eventually??? I installed it after body was reinstalled, and just pushed it in place.

I stuck mine in 4 years ago with no adhesive and it's still there.
