Default Solenoid wiring memory test

I didn't expect that it would take me a year to rebuild the engine in my 77, but it did. Now I'm not sure about reconnecting the wires on the starter solenoid. The heavy cable goes on the 3/8 dia terminal obviously. There is a smaller wire with a 3/8 dia hole in the connector - does that go on the same terminal as the cable? That leaves one small wire and connector. It looks like it connects to the outer small terminal on the solenoid. Is that right? That leaves no wire for the inside small connector. Right? Next time I'll label them. Thanks.

The small wire is hooked to the "S" terminal which is the small inside terminal.
this is providing you still have the HEI distributor. The "R" terminal is only used when you have the older distributors. You are right on the bigger wires they go on the batt terminal on the solenoid.

paso, correcto mundo, except GM in their funky wiring practices sometime, well most often really, used a ~14 ga black wire with a loop on it for a 3/8 bolt....it was sometimes connected to a starter mounting bolt, OR a bellhousing bolt down there where it does NOT belong....it is often connected to the battery positive post....NOT belong there....

it's the ground for the heater motor and WS wiper motor, maybe something else, I forget....anyway....it should be pulled up the harness and connected to some intake manifold bolt....up top,....less confusion, less corrosion, less grease....

Thanks guys. I am using an HEI distributor. so I will have to move the small wire. I was wondering about that ground wire. Right now it is on a bell housing bolt. I will take another look at it anyway.
