Default Intermittent electrical problem

My 1969 corvette, 350,4 speed, AC, 36k orig. mile, pertronix ignition module has dead batt after sitting for 3-4 weeks. Last time driven it shut off while shifting into 2nd gear. Car was dead.....no click....nothing. During tow home I turned key and started right up. But again after sitting for a couple weeks batt is dead. Any ideas......thanks.

Power going on and off like that is likely in the main wiring. Check the battery cables and solenoid connections. Don't neglect the ground wires at the frame. If you don't find anything then start following the wires off the solenoid that go into the engine compartment for bad fuses or fusible links on the wires. Also look at the horn relay connections and the firewall connector.

Unless you got 12vdc power from wiring that runs directly to the battery, the Pertronix should not be the issue. When the ignition is OFF, no power is sent to the ignition system. The exception to that statement is when there is a fault in the ignition switch.
