I want to THANK everyone for the time they have taken to reply to my recent posts. Now, I am ready to tear apart the Interior in my 74.. I have a complete carpet set. Any suggestions on where I should start and the best way to lay in the new carpet. Any suggestions & advice would be appreciated... THANKS
I started in the back with mine. It requires the removal of a lot, if not most of the rear trim.
When you pull the seats and do the front make sure you check for any heat leaks from the engine and exhaust and repair these. Place insulation under the carpet and anywhere where heat from the fiberglass transfers into the car. This will assist with any cabin heat related problems all of the C3's seem to share. I'm going to go with the more expensive but thinner insulation such as cool mat.
Thank You... I have a few addtional ??? Did you buy a foil kit that was desined for the car or something that you adapted. How think is the foil. Also, did you glue the new carpet in?
For the areas with lots of room to put it under the carpet, like on the rear deck, I put the standard stuff that is about $25 a roll. It is foil on the heat side and material on the up side. This link shows some of the stuff in place. It is about 1/2 inch thick. http://home.attbi.com/~jchadwick/interior.htm
I will be using a thinner product for the front. This vendor provides it but there are others as well. http://www.koolmat.com/main.htm
I did not glue it down as it wasn't glued when I took it up.
As to heat leaks, people have suggested a fairly dark garage and a bright light under the car. The light will come through where you have air leaks.
