About a month and a half ago I ordered a new gas tank for my 74. Wanted to keep everything all GM, so I ordered the tank from my local Chevy dealer. While I ordered the tank, figured might as well get a new cap and every thing else to go with it. Got the tank and cap in just a few days. When I opened the box with the gas cap in it, the cap did not have the tabs on the top of the cap. Called it to the attention of the parts guy, and he ordered another cap. Got in in a few days. Installed the tank, with the new cap and was happy. The first time I went to fill up the tank, While removing the cap, the tab broke on one side of the cap. Took it back to the Chevy dealer, they ordered a new one. Got it yesterday, As I was showing the parts guy on the new cap how the old tab broke on the second cap , the tab broke again. Ive gone through 3 gas caps, is less than a month. All genunine GM caps. My old cap still works fine, but I just wanted a new one to go with the new tank. GM quality is not what it used to be.
Sandblast the top of your old cap and get the yellow chromate paint from Eastwood to make itlook like new. If you ran into that many problems trying to get a new GM cap God is trying to tell you something. :yesnod:
GM quality is not what it used to be.
I agree, and what is with the GM restoration parts, some look like Taiwan replacements :smash:
I had the same question about a bumper for a 77 I did last year, the answer I got was anyone can make the part ,they just have to get approval to call it a "GM restoration "part.
Hell, I have watched the progression of all these countries over the decades....at first a *** car was pure junk....then Taiwan junk became the norm...now a daze it's not all that bad...but now of course it's China mainland...and that junk is pretty bad....for sure....
