Default Surge in Neutral on my 82

I just noticed (maybe it is new, maybe it is not) a weird little surge on my 82.

The car idles super smooth and runs great, it seems to hold steady any RPMs without variance under load.

Today, I was sitting my my car revving it in neutral as a I was listening and trying to create a gentle-yet annoying rattle in the drivers rear ---- but that is another story.

I noticed that about 1750 the car would do a gentle surge or pulse with a 250 swing with my foot rock steady on the accelerator. I did not rev it up higher than that as my Gladis Cravitz neighbor ran out of his house. Once under 1500, everything smoothed out.

So, here are the particulars...
New 85-89 fuel pump
New fuel filter
Timing set at 12
Fuel spray on injectors are that wonderful cone
Vacuum pulls a steady 19 at idle
all vacuum hoses (appear) to be in good condition with no cracks
No fault codes

Now, a caveat... I have been playing with my EGR and the solenoid trying to get that to work. Could that cause the surge?

Again, it seems to not surge under load but only in neutral.

Whaddayathink??

It's almost always a vacuum leak. Make sure the throttle bodies are screwed tight to the manifold (mine seem to loosen up occasionally). If that doesn't do it, then check your vacuum hoses.

Funny, I tried to recreate the surge thing later this evening so I could try to fix it. I drove the car- rpm steady as a rock, revving in neutral (with and without the lights, AC,,,etc) and again super steady.

Possibly my car just had a "moment"
