Default Differential

Looking to replace the stock 3.07 (in 80) with a rebuilt 3.73. Looked at various online vette vendors/sponsers and 2 local trans shops in nj - A bit pricey.... any other options? Thought it could be rebuilt/replaced for 500 to 600 bucks

anyone have any options(I'm not able to rebuild myself or would have done that all ready)

Ask Mike on here. Tracdogg2. He has rebuilt countless differentials for people. Walked me through an entire blue print rebuild on mine last year. He does a lot of machine work to true up a lot of the inconsistencies that make the entire rear end quieter and stronger.

Best there is IMO.

Yeah but the OP thinks $500-600 is high.

Mike is not going to be in his ball park and neither will any of the other reliable online builders.

Also depends upon how much he is running through it.

My 500+ hp 383 with a T56 and a 4.11 rear will need serious beefing up in the rear, 1/2 shafts, spindles and axles.

Check out local shops for anyone with vette experience and ask for some examples of his work.......

I had mine rebuilt about five years ago by a reputable shop and it was around $950.

I hope you at least plan on pulling the differential yourself? If not that will cost $$$$
I bought my own bearings, seals and a clutch pack and nabbed a set of 3:54 gears off ebay. Took it to a well known local guy that rebuilds diffs for drag racers and truck pullers. Charged me $300 labor and I had around $400 in parts, so even then I had at least $700 into it.

That seems like a pretty good price. An amazing price if they pulled it and put it back in!

Check the condition of your Yokes, driveshaft and U-Joints too. You will also need to replace the Speedometer gear. That will add to the cost too. I just spent close to $1500.

He did everything.... :-) the price I threw out was including the Cyro and rem coating ... I went all out without going to a 12 bold or something like that... Mika does say it's the best super 10 he has ever done:-)

FYI, My upgrade to 3.70 gears cost $900 nearly 20 years ago. That was with me R&R the differential.

A 3.70 rear gear with the THM-350 will put you at around 3200-3400 rpm at 70 mph. Cockpit is pretty noisy and hot with engine running like that. Wouldn't want to do that for a long trip. Maybe you have little highway driving in your plans.
