Default brake pad shims???

I just received a new set of brake pads for my 66 that I ordered from Eckler's. They're AC Delco pads, and in the box are a set of metal stick-on shims. I know that the current pads on the car don't have any type of shim, and I'm wondering if I even need to use these shims with the new pads. Anybody have experience, or an opinion of this topic? Thanks

The shims are to help eliminate squeal, most brake squeal is caused by a high frequency vibration between the back of the brake pad and the caliper and or piston. The vibration is created by the pads rubbing the brake rotor surface, when the pads are new they have a ruffer finish causing more noise, some materials are worse than others. The shim breaks up the harmonics by preventing direct metal to metal contact. Shims do the same thing as the old blue goo that use to come with some pads. I would suggest using them, it can't hurt. Don't use the blue goo on a Corvette it can sometimes stick to the pistons, causing them to rock in there bores and sucking in air.
