Horn doesn't work on my 69 vette and when we dismantled the column found that there is apparently supposed to me a large 2-3" diameter spring that keeps the horn contact plate moving up and down when the column is adjusted in and out. Anybody know if these are available from the parts houses. I am researching the GM part number also. Mechanic had an exploded view of telescoping columns for 69 GM cars that shows the spring. It does not show in the 69 vette Assembly manual.
I have the AIM sheet for the 1969 T&T column as well as the AIM sheet for the 1975 T&T column. Even though the 1969 illustration doesn't show the large spring on the underside of the lower horn contact assembly, it is the same part number as the 1975 column part. It is not available from GM. Dr. Rebuild does list the part: 1969-75 Lower Horn Contact 2819109 $35.
Re: Telescopic column spring for horn (69lemansblue)
While you have the column open, you might want to look near the directional signal plastic contact butt'y. I had a problem with my horn contacts and discovered the lower contact was depressed or pushed in and not contacting the contacts that connect to the spring butt'y that brings the voltage to the upper contacts.
