can anyone offer me some tips for the race track ? im going for the first time to run my `80 vett. the main question i have is : do i nail the gas and risk spinning tires and a second or two or do i gradually give more gas ? how do i achieve the cars best time in the 1/4 ?

You have to feel the track... Sometimes the track grips better sometimes worse...
The first thing you should do when going to the strip:
REDUCE YOUR REAR TIRE PRESSURE TO 18 - 20 PSI (this can make a lot of difference)
Run as hard as you can (full throttle)... However - if you notice the tires spinning too much - go slightly off the gas to get grip again and as soon as the tires are starting to get grip again - go back to full throttle...
if you are going to be there all day then make the first pass without changing a thing.
If you spin hard then drop the tire psi down a bit.
dont worry to much about the lights, Test and Tune days are for practice and the lights wont affect your time anyway. Just leave when you see the third yellow light.
Try to do the same thing everytime. That way when you make one change (and only make one change at a time) you will know how that single change affects you times.

Do not even hesitate for a second to take your foot off the gas completly... it can have some very bad consequences if you don't. If you feel tires aren't going to grab before going sideways, let up! You should only get a little squeel off the line at most. I almost lost control once when I didn't wanna let up... just use your head about it any you will be ok.
Best time for every car is going to be different, just try both nailing it and the 1/2 throttle launch then full after tires hook.. see what gives you better times. Bracket race however, you want no tire spin, it makes your time fairly inconsistant.
i have been practicing my take offs late nite at the entrances to the parkway. from standstill , i give full throttle my tires spin then i take off . again from standstill i give half throttle till i start moving , then nail it and i seem to be alot further. it also seems to me that when i give full throttle that the car hessitates , am i sending too much gas to the engine ? also , what are common charges for trips at the track ? thanks.
Nope, and I have no clue how much hp im puttong out... I REALLY need to get it on a dyno. It needs to be tuned too, so I will prolly try to get it dyno tuned and wipe out both "problems" at one heh
you might also want to arrive at the track with only a quarter tank of gas. this weight reduction helps times as well
It also give you less traction at the same time, I didn't used to need it, but now with more power I will never go to the track with less than 3/4 again.

Mine will definitly run faster with less gas. For every 100 lbs it is supposed to be worth .1 sec. If you can hook it up run less gas. The Vettes have decent weight transfer so the weight should be dumped towards the rear on take off.
what do i do about gas once im there ? schould i bring a couple of 5 gal jugs ? now that i think about it , i have alot of unecessary weight in the car like the sound system ( woofers & amp ) passenger seat , schould i leave the T-tops on or off the car ?
