Sorry if this has been done already...but I was thinking about what I have done to the car because of the "while im at it factor"... lets hear your stories. Where did you start and "while you were at it" what did you end up doing. What a can of worms to open huh?
I had a small hose leaking gas, right above the tank (need to remove tank, replace hose). For some reason, I end up taking the engine out, and pretty much the whole car is apart. I still can't figure out why I started this. Funny though the gas tank is still in...
My simple wheel bearing project turned into a complete drivetrain removal & restoration, frame restoration, gas tank removal and basically redoing everything under the car from the front of the doors aft. :jester If I had planned it that way I'd still be thinking about getting started instead of having it all done. Lots of photos here: http://www.annapolis.net/members/jul...70stingray.htm
You've got to get Chris (69L71) to tell the story about his vacuum canister replacement.... ;) :smash:
While I was at it doing my 1980's radiator core support, I had my A.I.R. pump rebuilt, original alternator rebuilt, new fan clutch, belts, hoses, waterpump, plug wires, sparkplugs, distributor cap which at 91,000mi, all these pieces mentioned were original and needed changed anyways-loads of fun on an '80!!! :yesnod:

Re: "While Im At It!" Stories (DollaGreen)
While I was checking the oil, I replaced the engine, transmission, exhaust, differential, drivetrain, entire rear suspension, front suspension, interior, radiator and lastly one of the turn signal bulbs.
I'm never gonna check my oil again. I simply can't afford it.

While I'm at it I think I'll change the heads, intake, cam, lifters, timing chain, balancer, carb, rods, pistons, exhaust, headers, rear end suspension, fuel system, carpet, roll cage, gauges, stereo, wheels, paint the entire car, new hood, emblems-yea I like the original emblems and all you guys who took them off should be ashamed!
Now without a wife and can barely pay my mortgage, and my shrink tells me I'm certifiably vette crazy. Yea it's a good life..
p.s. I'm sure once I get her running I wil meet a chick, and besides I will have some money to pay for the date. After I buy some race gas..
:chevy :chevy
I haven't done it with the engine yet, but I've done a "while I'm at it" with catalogs. I needed a $10.00 center cap and ended up ordering over $500.00 in parts.
I was going to make a quick intake and carb change. Now I have bought new cam, roller rockers, fuel pump, oil pump, headers, basically a top engine rebuild. Going to take the engine out and detail the engine compartment.
