After spending the last 1.5 months doing a heart transplant (and several other vital organs) on the '79, and definitely being ready to drive it, I was surprised to not have a working left turn signal. The culprit is the turn signal switch pivot, which I can't seem to find anywhere (yes, I have tilt-telescope). I didn't find much of help in using "search", so my questions to the forum are:
- Does anyone know where I could find one of these?
- Are there other alternate parts, e.g. from other GM models, which will work?
Thanks in advance for any help. Once I get this fixed, then I can post about the change from the new motor & assorted other goodies!
The turn signal pivot switch seems to be one of the few parts not available - either original or aftermarket.
I also have a 79 with tilt/tele and my pivot switch also needs replacing - although it is functional. When I discussed this with my local Vette mechanic shop, they indicated that salvage parts were about the only option.
I know this isn't very helpful, but at least I can confirm the reason you cannot seem to find this part.
I have these pivot pins...but I am hoarding them for steering columns I restore that need them. BUT...if it is a steering column of GM car of that era....with the high beam switch on the turn signal switch...the steel pin should be the same and I also have some that were actually bolts.
IF this helps you, here are the factory numbers and applications for the 1978-1982 switch pivots. Unfortunately, we just used the last 79 switch we had about 1 month ago doing a complete column rebuild. But maybe if you google the part number 7833283 you'll come up with one.
