Default Turbo 400

Can anyone tell me if the vent tube on a turbo 400 has a screen? Looking for help my 71 454 turbo 400 sometimes pushes fluid out the dipstick sometimes. Car isn't driven much.

Thanks

No it's...just open. It could be plugged somehow..but seldom happens.

Are you sure of fluid level? Not overfilled?

The vent is at the top of the right side of the main case. It has a roundish metal cap on a threaded metal tube that screws into the case. If your trans has been rebuilt at some shop, they could have left the vent off or could have put a plastic cap in there, but forgot to remove it and put the vent in.

You could also have too much trans fluid in the unit. Trans fluid level is checked with engine running and up to temp. If you set level when "cold", it will have too much fluid in it.

The metal cap on the tip of the threaded pipe won't allow a solid object to escape. It's designed to let air out and keep other 'stuff' from getting in. Sounds like it's doing its job.

Are you sure that the dipstick in your trans fill tube is correct for the unit? Fill tube and dipstick are a set? Possible that the 'full' mark is not at the right spot for that trans? Symptoms indicate an over-full transmission sump.
