2500 rpm at 60 is nothing late model cars can spoil us a little
A cammed up carbed car probably wont like cruising much under that rpm anyway every motor has its sweet spot get to know the car youll "feel it". Enjoy
Not sure about cam either, Holley carb is about all I know so far on this subject . Someday I hope to share every detail , if not , it will not be because I didn't try. Lol I have researched the numbers , found several years of registrations and receipts which is helping me build a trail. It is a bit of a fun puzzle that I hope to fill in ....someday.
Depending upon what your expecting, a 12 to 1 big block sounds like something you trailer to the drags. This isn't to say you can't drive it to the drags, but we get into practicality.
After that, we move into street ability. How "streetable" is a 550 hp 12 to 1 big block?
Nowhere near as streetable as a 600 hp supercharged LS3 while still getting a respectable 18 mpg pushing low 3:73's.
Dependability. Once again, only you can decide, but if my goal was cruising the streets I'd probably reconsider the power plant.
If your slow to decide, you still have 550 hp of knarly big block to bust loose the plaque and cholesterol building up on your arterial walls.....
Beautiful car you have there! Ha I like the way you think. Lol Only time will tell I think, and the car is definitely deserving of a new power plant if she wants it. Not that I am jumping up and down for that today. I see you are in Catoosa, (not that I believe everything I hear) the story that came with the car is that he was racing it and blew the 427 engine at the Tulsa Drags then put in the 454. Not sure when (considering the condition prob after the racing life) it had frame off restoration, racing seat /shoulder belts dated 1992 so assume sometime around then he was racing it in Tulsa. Under side looks great, all new bushings ect . Prior to discovering the 1992 model tires we have driven around a bit and seems to do well and rides great. (I was expecting rough just because of age).

Agreed ^^ Had a great ride last night, didn't go too far away but cruised for 5 hours with no problems. It was great. The beautiful weather we are having helps also. The first couple times we drove her it was hotter than hell weather, in that case I should probably stay in my truck with the air conditioned seats. lol Call me old and spoiled.
The weather will soon cool down, and make those extended cruises hard to beat.. Tops off , ripping down a country road, ahhhhh it just don't get better than that

If those tires are truly from 1992 get rid of them NOW youve just gotten real lucky. potential accidents aside if one goes it can take out an entire quarter panel quickly;cant imagine the cost esp with those flares

Yes they really are 1992 We just bought it last Monday. I am trying to find tires, looks like that is going to be a fun challenge. She is parked until then. I was not surprised they needed replaced due to date, I wasn't expecting they would be that old. I agree, someone got real lucky for a long time. I wasn't expecting it would be so far out that we can't drive it until we find them either. Still we think we are in the car right, now to find & buy her some gifts.

yea, blaah blaah blaah. WE WANT MORE PHOTOS! :-)
what size tires do you have on there?
There is a face book group called BBV (bad boy vettes) that has a lot of people from OK. They are really more into C6's but still a good way to meet some folks.
Hope you find some tires soon. Glad you have gotten to enjoy it!

The stories that come with the car probably change a little as they move to the next owner.
Yes just like a fish gets bigger and bigger from the time the fisherman reels it in to when he tells his buddies about it at the bar...
Be ready to hear TONS of bull$hit everytime you take a trip in the car, "I had one just like it but it was a Stingray, would pull wheelies, was a fourdoor blah blah blah" All these stories will be from someone in a mini van, NOT a 'Vette!
You might try finding a Pirelli in that size. It was OEM on the Lamborghini Countach and Pantera GTS if I'm not mistaken. This will likely be an expensive and special order tire, but should still be available in that size. From the pictures the wheels look quite a bit deeper than at 15x10, so a 295/50r15 may not fit or look right. Good luck. I have to get tires for mine too before I get it back out on the road. My fronts are at least as old as yours.
295/50 will still fit on a 12" wide wheel, about max. More than one size tire will fit a given wheel, but 15s are getting fewer and further between. You can take the wheel off, a tire shop will have a tool that they can use to measure the wheel with the tire still on. Then you can still move the car while you wait for the new tires.
