Argh! :mad:mad:mad I have been trying to remove the center console in order to install a new stereo, but I can't get the plate on the top off. It's catching on the vent open/close ***** and I'm not sure how I can remove them. I can't really get access to any of that stuff without taking off the plate, it seems.
Isn't that how it's typically done? It certainly seems like it would be easier to get at the screws from the console/gauge cluster if that plate was removed. Can I get at them from the sides?
Thanks.

Where the gauge/radio panel meets the center console there are two small screws and nuts tucked in there. Those nuts are a PIA to remove. I welded a 1/4 inch dia rod onto the side of a 5/16 socket to reach in there and loosen those nuts enough to finger them off and out.
I spent more than an hour trying to remove those stupid nuts before finally succeeding. :mad I just used a 3/8 wrench, which fit properly once I could get the right angle. Unfortunately the car's wiring system has been bubba'd extensively, so untangling that nightmare will be my project for the next few days. There's about 50 feet of wire behind the gauge cluster, and half of it isn't even connected! Oh well. I also have a chance to paint the cluster now and clean the glass, so it's not all bad.
