i have just noticed that my passenger seat leans to the drivers side. looking through the back window. seats were out for carpet replacement. they are both the same seat? or is there a difference from passenger and driver?
Did you replace the carpet or did you farm it out? Could be bunched up carpet... I had a terrible front carpet job done in my Corvette in Shreveport, LA. Place supposedly did magazine cars... Bad job, excess carpet under driver's seat, etc. Went on my wife's advice: just get it done. Don't bother using your time for that... I've been divorced for 5 years now. : ) Pull the seat out and check it out. From Long Island? I grew up in the City and lower Westchester.

My passenger seat leans outboard, so I shimmed it by placing washers between the seat rails and floor pan. Just make sure the bolts are long enough to have full thread engagement with the nutplates in the floor. I imagine its important to ensure seats are secure in a crash.
I agree with Jim ... it might just be bunched carpet.
If you take the seat out and the carpet does not appear bunched up, feel the carpet for something under it (there are a number of rivets and stuff like that). Also, the rear mounting holes for the seats are in close proximity to some rivets or other things as I recall, so something might be causing the right side track to mount improperly. Make sure someone did not shim one side for some reason or use washers under the track or something. Perhaps there's some errant jute under the carpeting where the tracks mount? That stuff is pretty thick and does not compress all that easily.
My 69 seats are the same as far as I can tell.
Good luck!

Reason: One More Thought: Iwas's comment reminded me that perhaps the seat back itself is not perfectly vertical?
had the interior work done, did half of it over again. i plan on going back to my house in florida again and take the entire interior out and do it over myself. new carpet and insulation done. dash doesnt line up right. was just thinking i reversed the seat tracks when i redid the seats. i grew up in astoria and now live on the island. and thanks
I know I'm picky, but when work is done by someone else you always have to check it out. Maybe these carpet guys only tightened the bolts on one side... I get my hair cut once a week, fri-sun, same barber f/ 20 plus years. Thank God, and it's a pleasure, not to "have to check" the work. Forget the mirror at the end, It's always perfect. A real rarity!
your not kidding, pulling the dash completely out sounds like a nightmare but i can do them all day long. its called patience, you dont make money doing it twice. vacuum system i could fix over the phone. ive owned this car since 1984 and only bought it cause it was $4200. and was cool looking. the last 10 years body off frame, put frame in machine and got it true, body was in good shape, interior was junk, clock is dead all else is good. now get the RIGHT parts and get it right. my kids are old enough to work with me. put the a/c back in it.
Hi b,
There is only one seat frame.
The seat cover and the position of the shoulder belt is what makes a seat a left or right.
The carpet and padding shouldn't affect the way a seat appears (tipped) because the feet on the front of the seat track sit directly on the fiberglass floor and the feet on the rear sit on top of the carpet but in a proper installation have the padding cut out below the feet.
Some people have reported broken seat frames (bottom or back) that can give the seat a tipped appearance.

Alan
A right side outer seat track showing the bolt going through the carpet in the rear and the front bolt covered by the carpet flap. The seat adjuster is operated with the RIGHT hand on both seats.
The front flap lifted showing the front bolt.
Both tracks install in the same way.
Julian date on a track. 301st day of 1970.
Here the carpet is ready for the seat to be installed… flap to cover the front bolt and hole punched through carpet for the rear bolt.
Hi b,
Yes the same both sides.
People found it pretty cumbersome so for 70+ the release was moved to the center of the back rest and higher up. Still one seat for both sides of the car.

Alan
