Default manual flywheels

I have a 168 tooth flywheel in the car now, its a HY or base motor with 4 spd. the starter is a straight pattern nose. I have a issue with one of the holes in the block being out of shape and have lining up the starter. the automatic uses an offset bolt pattern. my question is if I use the smaller manual flywheel of which I think is correct do I use the offset pattern starter?

Tom Parsons (Forum member DZAuto) has a tremendous body of knowledge related to the various starters, flywheels and bell-housings used on Chevrolet engines throughout the years and I would pay particular attention to what he says. If you have a question that is still unanswered, just send him a PM. He hangs out on the C1/C2 Forum most of the time and may not see your question over here.

Here are a couple of threads where he has posted a lot of info related to your question.
