Starter Wiring

Replacing crappy starter wiring. I've got the correct harness on the way.
please correct me if I'm wrong....
Harness has 1 purple wire.
3 Red wires running through 2 fusible links then connected together.
1 black ground wire.
Red wires that use fusible links connect at red circle (closest to engine).
Purple wire connects at Purple circle.
Nothing I'm adding connects at White circle.
Black wire grounds to tranny or starter mount bolt.
car is a 79 with AC and no aux fan

Well there is no "black ground wire" on that schematic for the starter wiring. The only black wire is the pos + cable to/from the battery. You need to make a resistance check of the black wire in your harness. If it has zero resistance to any of the red wires it's gonna be hot all the time and connecting it to ground will burn up that wire & harness!
The rest of the red wires all connect to the same terminal - the large terminal post the batt cable connects to. And the purple wire connects to its own terminal - normally called the "S" terminal.

The RED (on the left in your photo) connects with the BLACK wire coming from the battery.
The purple connects to the "S" terminal on the solenoid which is closest to the block.
The BLACK (on the right in your photo) is a ground for the fan and wiper motor and connects to a starter or bell housing bolt.
Your 1979 has nothing connected to the"R" terminal.
