Well, for our track, for C3 Corvettes, for the Month of September in 2002 :D Cappy has set a new benchmark for the rest of the scrubs to shoot for.....12.4 on our HORRIBLE track is awesome!! I think his MPH were around 111 or so, I am sure he will chime in and give us the gory details. Scott in his conv. Z06 also had a new best time of 12.6 at 111 on regular tires and I lowered my best time for my vert from 13.8 to 13.5 and my MPH went from 95 to 105. The extra gas definately helps out a bit, I am still having issues that need to be worked out though and will update on those a bit later ( I still think my fuel pump isn't big enough). Hopefully we will have video of a couple of runs later this week.
Re: Cappy sets new speed world record!!! (Maurice)
Thanks Maurice,
You helped in many ways by showing me how to launch and do proper burnouts....Although at times I didn't follow you directions and ended up with slower than expected times....Your drag radials really helped me overcome my fear of sliding around....This morning I noticed my neck is very sore and I thought it was caused by stress, the wife said it could be the weight of the helmet...Next time I'll set the seat to support the helmet...I had a very enjoyable evening at the track and look forward to many more nights at the tracks with you guys...I'll remove your drag radials today and have them back to you shortly.....Thanks again "You Da Man" when it come to instructions to us new-bees :seeya Cappy

Re: Cappy sets new speed world record!!! (8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE)
Mr. Cappy,
You did great! It takes a while before you get everything perfect. Having to play with launch RPMs, Tire pressure, burnout lenghts, reaction time, cars behavior, keeping control, staying in your own lane, shifting points, track officials, can be a lot to deal with when it is "show time". It takes practice at all of those things to be good and you also have a new unknown entity in your engines performance that you still have to get a feel for. You will be in the 11's soon enough. I think the sore neck is a result of the neck snapping launches and acceleration not a stinking helmet...credit where credit is due. I am a new-bee also when it comes to all of this stuff also. We stayed at Zippys till past 2 last night.
Re: Cappy sets new speed world record!!! (8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE)
Good run Cappy. Are you running the "stock" 415 from Bill Mitchell, or have you added the heads and roller cam that you were talking about in another thread? That's a very impressive run for a first time out. Do you think 11's are possible with the 415?
Re: Cappy sets new speed world record!!! (Desertdawg)
Desertdawg, I use that pic because I am from AZ and I think it looks pretty cool. I haven't been back in MANY years but always loved living there. I was born in Kingman and lived there till I was 11, then moved to Safford in the middle of my senior year or HS. I think I would move to Tucson if I ever left Hawaii.
Re: Cappy sets new speed world record!!! (81vette)
81 vette, it is the "stock" Bill Mitchell 415. Not that you were asking me, but a little more practice and a lot more traction will have him VERY close to 11's I think.

Re: Cappy sets new speed world record!!! (81vette)
81vette,
Sorry I've been away for a while tending to some family issues, howver I'm back on the forum again.....Yes this is the basic Bill Mitchell 415ci engine....I'm still waiting for the AFR 210 Comp Heads....I got the roller cam about a week ago....When the heads come in we pull the engine again....I'm trying very hard to break into the 11's and I think if I had slicks this could be very easy....with the drag radials the car was very slippery even with 15 psi of air.....If I could get a solid hook up without tire spin....11's are going to be a reality....I will try slicks the next time out....they are 9" mounted on center lines....Maurice, when is the next time we going for the 11's???????? :seeya Cappy
Re: Cappy sets new speed world record!!! (8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE)
Cappy,
I'm following your progress with great interest, because as you can see in my signature, the BM 415 short block is on my list of mods. I was shooting for a streetable low 12's on drag radials, but if 11's are possible then that's even better. BTW, what will be the cam specs for the roller your installing? I may have missed this in an earlier post, but what RPM's were you shifting at during your 12.4 sec. run?
Re: Cappy sets new speed world record!!! (81vette)
81vette,
As I said before in my IM to you....you will love this engine....With the new AFR 210 angle milled 64 CNC'd and fully ported heads and a XR294 Comp Roller Cam....Low 11's will be something to shoot for....The Cam spec's are 106 intake center line. Duration @ .050 Intake 242 with lobe lift @.3600 and Exhaust 248 with lobe lift @ .3750 and lobe separation 110.0..........I'm shifting at 5200 rpm....According to the techs at Bill Mitchell this engine makes most of it's power right about 5500...with 6000 being redline. Do not use the Distributor that comes with the Bill Mitchell engine....it self destructs @ 5500 RPM.....and I have all the parts-pieces, and dirty shorts to prove it. :D :seeya Cappy
