i don't know how different yours is from mine. mine is just blinker (wipers on dash) but when mine broke, i think i just ordered my replacement from CC. the biggest pain was getting the stub out. as i remember, i had to remove the wheel, horn and signal cam mechanism. mine uses a detent and groove on the arm to hold it in place. once it broke, there was no way that little piece was comming back past that detent so it had to come out the other way. anyway, i got the replacement and just stuck it in there. didn't even push it all the way in to lock it. it works fine and when i go to the track i take it out and put it in the door pouch. i feel like such and idiot turning my signal on before going into turn three! :bb
hope you can find yours and it's easier.
I had mine come out in my hand a few months back - the shaft with a couple of pins on it- I carefully fitted it back in. Since I don't drive that much at night and so don't use the dimmer very often it has worked fine.
If your shaft actually broke - you might have to try a salvage yard. I figure one day I'll pull the steering wheel and replace the turn signal switch (usually white plastic - and if memory serves me with a wire running down the column) - I'm pretty sure the shaft just fits into this piece..
I guess you've already figured out the '77's are the only year with this wiper/headlight dimmer/turn signal setup.
Maybe some other '77 owners have done this repair?
I found two levers listed in the Turn Signal Lever section by Dr. Rebuild:
Lever - 1977 except T&T or Cruise 2897112 $15.50
Lever - 1977 with T&T and Cruise 2897113 $140.00
I thought that the 1977 Vette had the cruise engage button on the end of the tilt lever. It could be that the -113 lever might be the special tilt lever. You will probably have to call to confirm.
If you have a broken stub of your previous lever that is stuck in your steering column, there are two simple tools that you can fabricate that will help you in removing the stub (without having to disassemble your steering column).
Go to: http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Steering. There is a paper entitled Turn Lever Stub Removal and a diagram entitled Turn Lever Stub Tool Pics. They will help you to remove the stub.
