Default 74 Cam install update

Things are going pretty good. Got everything off today and got the cam out. tomorrow I will put the cam and lifters back in. I am going to change the rockers and valve springs tomorrow. Is it best to put the cam and the distributor in and then turn the crank so I don't lose the timing or should I just turn it and get to TDC #1 when I am done with the rockers?

When I took the fuel pump out I think the pushrod came down. What do I need to do to get it back up and put my new fuel pump on?

Thanks for all your help so far. Hope the rebuild goes as good as the tear down. I plan on taking about 3 days to get it back together. I don't have to work for awhile so I've got plenty of time. Time for a cold beer and college football.

Once to have completed the installation of your new cam. At that point you can cover the push-rod with wheel bearing grease and then push the rod up towards the cam, the grease should hold the rod up, now install your fuel pump. That is what I did and it worked fine.

Scott W....
Once you get all the pieces bolted in you need to cycle the engine to get to TDC #1 and make the alignment marks line up to make sure the cam in right on without "degreeing it in" Lots of articles on this practice.

Then you need to adjust zero lash on the rockers/lifters which wil require cycling the engine for each cylinder. Check out Lars papers in the FAQ's for finding TDC, and setting the lash. After this you can go back to TDC#1 to install the dist. and set static timing for the start up. Good luck.

Right on!
Here's a write-up from my cam install. http://www.bokonon.net/corvette/cam1.html I held the pushrod for the fuel pump up with a long bolt through the front of the block. Also some other tips I learned along the way are in there as well. Not that its gospel, but just some thoughts from a rookie cam-installer. :)
good luck!
