Default 1969 Astro Vent Install Help...

Guys,

Getting close to finishing the '69 and I'm having issues hooking up the Astro vent cables that go from the console to the vent doors behind the kick panels. From the assembly manual it looks like I may have lost/discarded some little angled brackets which bolt to the birdcage and allow the cable to come in at the correct angle to hook up to the door.

The door sits inside of a little "cubby" so somehow or another it seems like the cable has to have a bracket of some sort.

Anyone have pictures or this?

Thanks,
Rick

Guys,

I'm looking for a particular pair of small brackets for an Astrovent (non AC) 1969 Corvette. They are spot welded to the birdcage just above the kick panel and are there to hold the astrovent cables at the proper angle to enter the vent door recess. Please see the following in the assembly manual.

Asm 1

Part 6
Left Bracket = 19467
Right Bracket = 19437

I did a bird cage swap on my 1969 and I think that the new cage that I got was from a non-AC car hence not having the brackets.

Let me know if any of you guys have a set of these. They are probably pretty common as they were most likely on every car that was non-AC from 1968-1972 (most of them). Check your rusted out old birdcages.

Thanks,
SUM

Might want to check the AIM again. 19467 indicates convertibles; 19437 is for coupes.

All cars without factory air got the vent cable brackets. For cars with factory air, the driver's side vents (upper and lower) are blocked off and there is no vent cable to the lower door. On the passenger's side, the cable is replaced with a vacuum servo to open and close the door.

Hi Rick,
Here's what the metal bracket looks like.
The plastic 'tab' on the cable is screwed (1) to the bracket and on my 71 the bracket is screwed (2) to the hinge pillar.
Regards,
Alan

Thaks again Alan! Once again you've been a huge help. Now... where do I find a pair of these little buggers? You'd think that with there being more non-AC cars than AC ones that they'd be everywhere!

Hi Sum,
Try Gee Auto Sales in Middlebury Center, Pa.
Gale Gee is a really nice guy. He has a Corvette salvage yard so may well have what you need.

Good Luck!
