Default Interior Detail/Repaint

Question 68 vette. I want to detail some of the plastic and metal interior parts - the blacks and silvers. I am currently working on the windshield wiper cover switch plate.

I have never done any painting/touch ups, so I am looking for a few suggestions. What is best way to prep metal, and plastic parts. Best type of paint to use on each, how to get the fine detail of the silvers done easily (like the hash marks on the wiper switch) without messing up the black behind.

Thanks for any suggestions.

3speed - 68. :chevy

You have a three-speed manual 1968? That is a rare bird.

Most of those interior parts are chromed - painted over.
You paint the whole thing - and then carefully scrape the dried
paint - with an exacto knife or razor blade - from the areas that you wish
to show chrome.

Of course, you may need to remove as much original paint as required
to make the new coat look good and smooth. Don't use abrasives, as
these can scratch the chrome parts that are revealed.

Hope this helps you along.
