Default Big Block Starter hung up.

Not all the time, when starting my car the starter will continue to spin but not engaging the fly wheel. I'll have to disconnect the battery for it to stop than jump the starter to make it act normal.. Any one ever had this issue and what was the fix?? The starter is a proform high torque gear reduction starter, the second one to do this...

Thanks
Victor

did you measure the starter gear to flywheel gear clearance? The instructions that came with the starter didnt mention anything about adjustments or shims?

It's not that it doesn't engage that is the problem it's spins when the ignition is off.. All I can do to stop it and disconcert the battery.

If its not the ign switch staying on....It the solenoid hanging up.

But you said its the second starter...so got to be either the switch or your wiring!

After the first one I added a heat shield and wrapped the headers thinking it was a heat issue and it may still be heat I'm at a loss.

If it's shimmed to tight to the flywheel it can do that.
