Hi CG,
Nice photo!
It appears that the lettering is actually raised up a tiny bit…. can you feel the screening with your finger?
Regards,
Alan
Hi Alan. I didn't even know there was silk screening as it was very dirty the same as the center. It's been sitting in the closet for a few years. I read this post so dug it out and ran my hand over it and could feel the raised lettering so wiped it with a paper towel and brake cleaner and that was underneath. The raised lettering is very pronounced so the paint must have been pretty thick when applied.
Hi CG,
That's just what I was thinking.
I'm really not very familiar with the silk screened lids since I don't have one.
I found what I saw in your photo pretty interesting.
Regards,
Alan
I am getting mixed info. I have a 350/300 HY. I did understand the application was 350 and 427 with single 4bbl. a few sights list curved for 68-69 and straight for 70-72. I am getting ready to buy a set so I wanted to be sure. found a flash chromed lid with a straight pattern

If you are going to buy a reproduction be aware of 3 things: repro lids (at least from Paragon's catalog) indicate '68-'69 lids have curved instructions. At least for my early '69, the instructions are straight as shown in the above photo. Secondly, the instructions are quite different from originals in that the writing is very fine and "neat". Originals are bolder and not so neat. It is easy to tell the difference. Third, the chrome is way to nice. Originals were flash- not triple- chromed. Of course the repro is beautiful and that's why I have one on my car except when it was judged when the original went back on. Just my 2 cents.

thanks. i have already said screw judging. im not building a shitbox. im a perfectionist. i have nothing so repro is my only option. im building it right not correct.
hi, were does the HP sticker sit in relation to the silk screen?
The HP sticker sits at approximately 12 o'clock from the silk screen on the other side so when on the car with the hp sticker facing forward the silk screen would be at the rear or 6 o'clock position although it isn't exact. Mine is straight lettering and my build was Oct 24th 69. The paint or whatever they used must be pretty tough as it is inside the filter and had to endure 47 years of gas fumes, evaporation from heat, backfiring and whatever else. The under side of filter lid was black from use as I mentioned but the lettering is not much worse for wear after wiping it with brake cleaner on a paper towel. The lettering is quite raised also.
i see a flash chrome, straight silk screen repro from davies corvette in fla. paragon offers one the same but they are the ones that say curved for 68-69 and straight for 70-72. thanks for the info.
Hi b,
Be CAUTIOUS in thinking that the car won't EVER be judged!
(Ask me why I believe that.)
NCRS Flight Judging or a Bloomington Certification is a pretty nice recognition for the car AND for the effort you put into it it.
Many carefully restored cars do surprisingly well!

I know Alan, ive looked at a lot of used oem and decided to go with repro on things. I have learned there is a lot of repro junk. that's why all the questions. you know everyone is right or an authority. I have received MANY good answers and advice here, so this is my fact book. some parts of the restoration are to my standards, i.e. body and paint finish under hood finish chassis finish. as well as pretty it needs to be durable, it rains damn near everyday in FLA. aluminized exhaust, and tires. quartz clock(sorry guys but it MUST work). so I am willing to take my lumps by the NCRS, and may change some stuff but I am committed to some stuff that's all ready done. like I said I want it to be restored right but it wont be CORRECT by the book. I am doing all the recalls also, i.e. motor mounts insulation in the battery/jack well, it was done in mine so ill redo it.
