Default 1971 color options

My car is repainted, trim tag says 420 983, which is dark saddle leather / brands hatch green. I was looking up what options were available when ordered and I don't see dark saddle with brands hatch as an option. Does anyone know if this was available as an option? Seems unlikely they would have painted the car red and put in a trim tag that says it should be green with brown interior.

983 and 420 were both available options in 71. I believe you could special order any available interior with any available color if you checked the correct box. It does appear that a 983/420 combo was not a recommended color combination that year.

Hi sb,
There was actually a code for "Color Override", ZP2. ZP2 was a "scheduling option" which over-rode both the Zone and Central Office order edit systems, which would otherwise reject a dealer order that specified a "non-recommended" exterior color and interior trim combination.
For instance in 1972 Chevrolet built RPO ZP2 Color and Trim Override (490 coupes and 164 convertibles) total of 654 Corvettes built.
Regards,
Alan

Info from John Hinkley and Drew Papsun.

I copied "Interior options for exterior colors are suggested by Chevrolet. Any combination could be ordered." out of your link and did a little editing.

GM would usually allow non-recommended color combinations if the buyer's preference wasn't going to cost them anything. They had Brands Hatch green on hand; they had dark saddle upholstery. Putting the two together cost them nothing and help sell a Corvette.

I have a 1971 Brands Hatch Green with Dark Saddle Interior. Great color combination in my opinion. DO you have any pictures?

Most 983 cars came with 400/403/423 interiors. Mine has 417 vinyl. You should be lucky to have the 420 upgraded leather interior. Enjoy!
