Ok so i understand that there are hundreds of threads here about door gaps but I can't seem to find one that covers my issue. So if your experienced in c3 body work please give me a shout.
so here is the issue. the car in question is a 79 coupe. The passenger side rear door panel to the body is off 3/8 inch in the center at the body line (center of the door sticks out farther than the rear quarter). Now I know what your thinking is that the hinges need the shims removed (there are a few) and or adjust the stricker bolt however the top and bottom of the door line up with the rear quarters just fine. the door skin does not appear to be separated for the door frame. I had considered laying glass and blocking it out to smooth but it's just to much. it would mess with the way the handle lays in the door.
The front of the door line up with the front fender ok with only about 3/16 difference with the top of the door out from the front fender. The gaps themselves are tolerable for a driver and it does not appear the door needs to go up or down. body mounts were replaced with new urethane mounts, no shims from the old or on the new.
I have some glass skill but am by no means a professional. I have a hard time paying for something I have the capability to do myself, and part of the project of this car is picking up and working to improve as many skills as I can. Hopefully some one can chime in on this one cause I am stumped. thanks in advance!!
Hi H,
WELCOME!
First Post!
While the actual gaps typically vary the transition from the fenders to the door should be quite smooth.
I certainly understand your desire to figure out and remedy this on your own.
It's difficult to make thoughtful suggestions without seeing some photos of the situation in front of you.
With door fit/gap problems it helps to see each of the four corners up close and a couple of 'overall' photos where the fenders can be seen too.
Someone like member DUB can often give you some help from those photos.
Can you post some?
Regards,
Alan

alan, could not agree more with you. I tried to paint a word picture however we both know pictures are worth a thousand words. I will try and get some good pictures and post them tonight.
Ok so while trying to get some pictures I bit the bullet and messed around with tho door shims. got it close, but will still have to do some glass work on the bottom of the door. Apparently the car was painted later in its life and some one shimmed the doors with old body mounts still on. so when I changed them out it tweeked everything. heck I even got up enough motivation to change out the hinge bushings and pins on the drivers side (passenger were good). thanks for help guys! I'm one step closer to laying some lime rock green on this thing!!
I have 2 new pins and bushings that will give you for your use, just pay the postage. they were for my 76, but put new hinges on instead.
Thanks for the offer but I actually have pins and bushings. I did the drivers side already, the passenger side is good so I actually have a set if I need them later on. just need to glass the bottom part of the doors and a little bit of filler and they should look good.
